Sleep in a castle: Romantic hotels in Switzerland

Valentine’s Day is over. But who says romance has to be tied to a specific date? We think everyone deserves a romantic getaway every now and then — whether it’s with your partner, your best friend, or simply on your own.

That’s why today we’re whisking you away into the world of our castle hotels — where nobles once feasted, knights dueelled, and maybe even a ghost still wanders the corridors… Ready for your very own fairytale escape?

A romantic castle escape in Aargau 🏰
📍Hotel Schloss Rued | Boutique Hideaway, Schlossrued

For centuries, Schloss Rued has watched over the picturesque Rued Valley. First mentioned in the 13th century, it served for generations as the residence of noble families and local lords. After an extensive restoration, the listed castle hotel reopened in 2018 as a Boutique Hideaway — ready to write a new chapter in its story.

And of course, comfort comes as standard: in the bistro and restaurant, you’ll enjoy seasonal dishes made with regional ingredients. A must-try is the “Grüne Bar” — don’t miss the house-brewed beer “Schloss Bräu”. And if you’re craving a little relaxation, there’s even a small sauna tucked between the Knappenhaus and the Waschhaus.

Fairytale grandeur on Lake Maggiore
📍Castello Dal Pozzo, Oleggio Castello IT

In northern Piedmont, just minutes from Arona and Lake Maggiore, Castello Dal Pozzo rises from a 24-hectare park — a historic residence with roots dating back to the 10th century. For more than six generations, the Dal Pozzo family has lived in the castle and cared for it lovingly.

This 5-star hotel blends the refined charm of a neo-Gothic castle with the modern comfort of a luxury retreat. Historic stables, glittering chandeliers, three (gourmet) restaurants, a selection of bars, and even an outdoor pool (May–September) complete the experience.

Castle whispers in Fribourg 👻
📍Schloss Ueberstorf Hotel / Restaurant, Ueberstorf

Schloss Ueberstorf has stood in the same spot for more than 500 years — and yet it doesn’t feel dusty at all. Quite the opposite: the atmosphere is warm, playful, and sometimes even delightfully quirky. That’s not only thanks to the 14 individually designed rooms — each one unique — but also to a very special guest: since 1635, Theodor Sebastian von Englisberg has been causing mischief here. But don’t worry — he’s said to be exceptionally friendly and, at most, provides a fun talking point over breakfast.

Add a restaurant, a romantic castle garden, and a small chapel, and you’ve got the perfect place to leave everyday life behind.

ℹ️ The hotel is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Straighten your crown, pack your bags, and off to the castle! 👑
